Trials to Triumph
2020 was supposed to be a year of clarity, a vision year. But God had other plans. My year was marked by trials, with two major surgeries and a diagnosis of lupus. It was a traumatic six months.
It started with back pain, leading to an emergency room visit and a diagnosis of low potassium. A mammogram referral was delayed, and a subsequent emergency room visit and additional testing were required. Thankfully, a compassionate female doctor listened to my concerns and referred me to a breast cancer specialist. The tests were negative for cancer.
Hidden fibroid
Another female doctor, understanding my distress, referred me to a prominent OB/GYN specialist. He ordered further tests, which revealed a five-pound fibroid that had calcified, died, and attached itself to my enlarged uterus. My breast issues were due to the onset of lactation—a new layer of challenges I hadn’t anticipated.
The surgeon who could remove the fibroid was out of the country, forcing me to continue working while enduring severe pain. I secretly used a butt pad to manage the discomfort. Eventually, my condition became too noticeable, and I was forced to stay home.
A glimpse of hope
Desperate for relief, I sought out another surgeon but the pain worsened. I feared I was dying and said goodbye to my mother. After a series of emergency room visits and misdiagnoses, a female OB/GYN correctly identified the issue. However, my weight was a concern for surgery.
Miraculously, a surgeon opened up a slot in his schedule, and I underwent a hysterectomy. Just two days before the world shut down due to COVID-19. Post-surgery complications included breast issues and Raynaud's syndrome. Further testing revealed lupus and Chiari malformation.
A stronger me
The challenges continued with dysphagia, anxiety, and a decline in appetite and thirst. Over two years, my list of conditions grew to include sleep apnea, dry eyes, a hiatal hernia, gastritis, hemorrhoids, and neuropathy.
Throughout the many trials, I learned to advocate for myself and others. My testimony is a testament to God's grace and my resilience. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my story and inspire others to persevere through adversity. To God be the glory, hallelujah, amen.
