Double Vision

Hello everyone. Would anyone else be interested in sharing stories about living with double vision (diplopia)? I have been doing so for over 40 years and it would be refreshing to find out if others have insight to share. Sometimes it feels very lonely and quite frustrating.
I am not certain what 'category' to put this topic into. So..for now...'Awareness'. Thoughts?
Thanks for reading. Hope to hear from you soon!
Marie

  1. My mother is having double vision following a nerve palsy for over a decade, some days being tougher than others-glasses with prisms gave slight relief, the fatigue intensifying the symptoms. Thank you so much for starting this thread; this is comforting since it means we are not alone.

    1. Thanks so much for sharing your mother's story with us. It is comforting to know we are not alone during our vision journey. I recently had cataract surgery and have noticed it has made my diplopia worse. Yikes...I will be writing about that later.
Best of luck to you mom!
      Blessings...Marie

  2. I have double and sometimes triple vision. It is usually worse when I have a major issue either coming or if it has just happened. I try to laugh it off to the outside world, but it really is tough on the inside. I used to color, but now I can't even start because I'm not sure where the real lines are and what is the line in my mind. I did go to a neuroopthamologist at Mayo Clinic and they did a visual field study and said my physical eye is fine, but the problem is neurological (they always say that). In fact, sometimes after I have an event my eyes will just hurt. They say it is because during an event my eye muscles are straining and there is tension in the brain that goes on to cause pain.

    1. Thanks for replying and sharing your personal experience. My diplopia is caused by a head injury. Like you, I also see triple at times. My diplopia was finally dx as "nerve palsy" (after 25 years of not hearing that term). I agree, it is frustrating to hear how healthy our eyes are and yet we cannot see straight. I, personally, have been in the middle of lens manufacturers and doctors for decades (due to trying prisms). Each one claims their position is correct. All I want to do is see correctly. It's tiring.
Best of luck and hang in there!

  3. We all need a Mrs. Madden. She was small and could be tough.
Better yet, we all need to be more like her.
I hope you have a good weekend. We may see you again.

    1. I think we all have that in us. Women are born nurturers in my mind, maybe not all are born that way, maybe they weren’t raised to be that way. What a wonderful world it can be.

How are you doing. You are a nurturer for sure. Do you have a story here?

      1. I am doing fine, thanks for asking. Are you replying to me? If so, yes, you originally responded to my story. Hope you're doing well. Marie

      2. I was replying to you and to someone else. I told about my 5th grade teacher and all of her help.
Yes, I did reply to you too.
        How are you doing?
